For
Everyone?

Why don't all string players use them?
Well, the music world is very conservative when it comes to
changes.
EVEN, IF A NEW INVENTION OR ENHANCEMENT PROVES TO BE A
LONG-TERM ADVANTAGE, IT TAKES QUITE A WHILE EFORE IT IS
GENERALLY ACCEPTED.
Musicians who own a valuable instrument tend to be slow in
accepting the newest changes. It is a good principle to
experiment with innovations on expendable commercial
instruments. After an invention has proven itself over years to
be of advantage without any negative side effects, the
innovation can be applied within a wider horizon.
When the carbon fiber bows were first introduced there were
very few takers. The older generation among us will remember
how much resistance there was initially to the "artificial"
synthetic strings for violin or even the steel strings for
cello.
The fact that they did not constantly change their pitch
with changing heat or humidity was not immediately convincing.
The thought of installing "plastic pegs" today in to a fine old
instrument is revolting to many aesthetes in our field. Here
too the practicality and the added protection of the peg box
will take time to convince more and more people.
Some people may prefer an artistically hand
created peg on their treasured instrument versus a peg which
is so much more more practical. This is
understandable but the time will come where this new approach
is readily accepted by many. Now there is a very nice
alternative.
